C. M. Steele Insurance Brokers was founded in 1898 by Omer L. Steele. Working from his home, Omer Steele sold fire insurance on houses and boiler insurance on the tug boats operated on the Welland Canal.

In 1940, Charles Steele, Omer Steele’s nephew took over the business. Shortly after, Charles joined the RCAF serving our country until 1945. During his absence, Charles’s father received special dispensation to deliver the renewals thus maintaining the business. Charles re-entered the business upon his return and actively sold and serviced insurance in Port Colborne and surrounding areas until his retirement.

William Steele, Chuck’s son and the third generation, along with Kent Peacock who joined the business in 1976, have operated the business since Chuck's retirement.

As time changed so has the products and services offered and technology has changed the way business is conducted but the one thing that has not changed is the commitment to our customers.
