The sixties were restless times.  While the world watched, American youth burned their draft cards in protest of a senseless war, Winston Churchill was laid to rest, Julie Andrews accepted an award for her star role in Mary Poppins, Pillsbury created its iconic doughboy, and the Beatles sang on.  But two weeks before the Union Jack was replaced by the Canada Flag a young Bill Wood, with his father Jack standing tall behind him, purchased an insurance office in Eastern Ontario and ‘Wood Brokers’ was born.  It was February, nineteen sixty five.

Forty five years later, three generations of Woods have moulded the business, each characterized by a care for the people of Smiths Falls.   By the time Bill’s son Robbie joined the firm in 1987, the insurance industry, and indeed the entire world, was changing dramatically. The conventional parade of large fuel imbibing Fords, Chevys, Chryslers, and Pontiacs gave way to smaller models and foreign makes. Local high schools buried their electronic typewriters, as computers were introduced beckoning us all into a faster world.

We purchased our first computer system in 1989.  The green and black faces on those early DOS-run machines watched as Robbie modernized the brokerage.      Armed with a Bachelor of Commerce and CGA designation, he ushered Wood Brokers into the new millennium with enthusiasm and computer savvy.  By 2003, the office was paperless, allowing us to handle growth in a more economic and environmentally-friendly fashion. We now take full advantage of technology, providing the best personalized customer service possible.
