Oral Cancer Screening

Do you know if you have Oral Cancer?

Now you can know, with the new VELscope available at Loza Dental Great Falls. “Our office uses an innovative hand held device that is revolutionizing dentistry.” – Dr. Juan Loza.

This advanced device is called the VELscope (as you might have seen on hit TV show The Doctors).  The VELscope shines a safe blue light into the patient’s mouth.  This harmless light shines into the tissue and penetrates to the level of the basal cells.   This blue spectrum light utilizes a specialized filtering technology  to help thoroughly evaluate the oral tissue for abnormal areas of concern; such as potentially cancerous    lesions that may not be visible under white light.  The VELscope Exam is painless, fast and effective.

  • 100 new people in the United States will be newly diagnosed with an oral cancer every day.
  • 70% of the time oral cancer is not visible until it has reached an advanced stage.
  • 1 person every hour of everyday will die from oral cancer.
  • Studies at Johns Hopkins University suggest a strong link between the Human Papilloma Virus and Oral Cancer.
  • The death rate from Oral Cancer is twice that of cervical cancer.
  • The death rate from Oral Cancer has stayed the same for over 40 years.
  • As with all forms of cancer the earlier it is detected the better the patient’s chances are of surviving.

The VELscope system is recognized by The World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the eight health products that address global health concerns.  Loza Dental Great Falls is dedicated to excellence and expertise in Family Dentistry and committed to saving lives through effective early oral cancer detection.

Please call our office at 703-759-3011 and ask for the VELscope Exam.

Laser Procedures

Lasers represent an innovative and more precise technology for specific hard and soft tissue applications.  With laser treatments you will feel more comfortable and have less anxiety.

Many people are somewhat anxious about dental procedures and seek extreme safety and comfort; for that reason, we have incorporated laser technology into our dental treatments.  Laser dental treatments are a safe and healthy way to treat teeth. Treatments are gentle, fast, less invasive and less stressful.

Dr. Loza Specializes in Laser Dentistry.
Lasers are precise and effective.  When used in dental filling procedures they are capable of killing bacteria located in a cavity, potentially leading to improved long-term tooth restoration.

Laser Dentistry for Kids
Dr. Loza knows how important a child’s first dental experience is.  All of us here at Loza Dental know how to deal with kids in a personal, compassionate and reassuring manner.  We strive to eliminate the phobias and traumas that many older patients have carried into their adult lives.

Relax and Be Well you are in the care of a Prosthodontic Expert.

Fillings: Fast and Pain Free Laser restorations.  Lasers are used to remove decay from within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for the composite resin filling. Lasers are also used to “cure or harden composite resin fillings.

Biopsy or lesion removal: Lasers are used to remove small pieces of tissue to be examined by a laboratory for possible cancer.

Tooth Sensitivity: Dental lasers may be used to seal tubules (located on the root of the tooth) that are responsible for hot and cold tooth sensitivity.

Cold Sores and Canker Sores: Low intensity dental lasers reduce pain associated with cold sores and canker sores while minimizing healing time.

Laser Tissue Treatments:

Lasers can be used to reshape gum tissue around teeth.  They are also used to remove bacteria from pockets around the teeth.  Bacterial infections are minimized because the high-energy beam sterilizes the area being worked on.

Teeth Whitening: Lasers are used to speed up in-office teeth whitening procedures.
