Baker City has a great downtown that has many locally owned shopping opportunities for the public and restaurants. During the summer, the local restaurants will have outdoor setting for the public. Baker City has a lot of tourist that enjoy site seeing and learning about the history of Baker City. The Powder River runs throughout the town and there is a very nice walkway along the river that is very popular with the public and visitors. Baker City is well know for it's cattle industry that offers open ranges, pasture land and timber lands. Most of the cattle producers winter there cattle in the Baker Valley. The Oregon Cattleman's Association started in Baker City. There is also Interpreter Center for the Oregon Trail. This is very popular for the visitors and the public.
If you enjoy winter skiing, the Anthony Ski Resort offers some great wintertime fun. The snow is dry and makes for some great skiing. The lodge has two restaurants and great views of the mountains. There is also a large gross country ski area and snowmobile trails. In the summer the Anthony Lakes Highway is access to the Granite area.
Hells Canyon is access from HWY 86 from the Freeway 84. The first town is Richland which has a large number of homes on acreages and a small downtown. There is also a private camp ground area for the public. Eagle Creek starts in the Wallowa Mountains and enters the Powder River Arm. Richland has some great small mouth base fishing, crappie fishing and catfish. Once in a while you can catch a large trout. During the fall and winter the chucker hunting season is in full swing and deer hunting. Halfway is the next town to come too. This is a nice valley that is rich with cattle farms and has a number of local businesses. Pine Creek runs through the valley. Hells Canyon is a beautiful Canyon that is full of flowers in the spring and wildlife. There are three dams in the Canyon that offer some great fishing and water sports.
