POST AND WIRE: Post and wire is generally the most economical fencing available but is generally used in agriculture and commercially zoned areas to mark property boundaries. Wire fencing comes in several styles including smooth wire, barbed wire, and woven wire. This type of fencing can be done with either wooden posts, metal posts, or a combination of the two. The number of wires used is very dependent on what animal you are wanting to keep in. CHAIN LINK: Chain link is one of the more economical materials available and very common for securing your property. It comes in traditional silver and now available in vinyl sprayed black and green. There are also slats available to install if you need privacy as well. Chain link is also very maintenance free. Warranties: Again dependent on manufacturer but range from 0-15 years. WOOD: Wood is probably the most common material used. It is very traditional, versatile and depending on the product moderate in pricing. However it generally needs treated with a stain or wood preservative to protect it from insects rot and ultraviolet light. This generally needs reapplied every 3-5 years depending on wood and products used. Warranties available depend on wood products on retailer it is purchased from, but may vary from 0-15 years. VINYL: Vinyl is a wood substitute. It can generally be made into most of the same styles as the wood products however they are fairly limited in color choices–generally white, however some brands are expanding their color availability. Vinyl is a great way to get the painted wood look without the regular painting and staining required. It does not rot and insects won’t bother it, making it more expensive than wood (in the short term) but very maintenance free. Warranties: Depends on the manufacturer but often range from 20 years to lifetime. COMPOSITE: Composite is another wood substitute. It is generally much stronger and more durable than vinyl products and often a bit more expensive. Composite material is one of the more eco-friendly “green” products on the market. Generally made from recycled plastic and wood fibers. The Terra brand that we carry is made from recycled plastic and wheat straw making it the most eco-friendly product. It is also available in most styles. Composite is generally available in more colors than vinyl but varies greatly depending on manufacturer. The composite materials that we sell comes in 6 colors for most styles. However we will use any manufacturer that you prefer. Very maintenance free. Warranties: Depends on the manufacturer but often range from 20 years to lifetime. Things to think about when choose the style of fencing you would like to have: Because they are really are hundreds of styles of fencing to choose from, here are a few things to think about when choosing the style of fencing you would like to have. What style do you like? Often people choose a fence based on seeing a style they like in someone else’s yard. Is the style that you like in keeping with the style of your home? Match the style of fencing with the style of home you have or type of property that you live on. This usually gives you the best curb appeal. Are you in a historical district or a new sub division, etc. These examples may limit your options for style, height and location. Always check with your zoning department, homeowners associations and local officials before choosing a style of fence and having a fence installed. What function are you wanting you fence to achieve? This is a great question because it can really help you narrow the styles of fence you want and need. What is the most important function of your fence and what styles are available that fulfill these needs? Are you trying to keep pets and or children safely in your yard? Do want total privacy? Or would you like a privacy fence that allows air to flow through. Are you trying to keep intruders out or block an unpleasant view? Just want to boost your curb appeal? |
