Union Appliance and Furniture, Inc.'s building was completed in 1938 and is a contributing building to the National Historic Register. It is an Art Deco style commercial building with an angled wing at the left. Distinctive details include yellow brick bands under a denticulated concrete cornice with matching bands above and below the upper windows and a triple band above the store front. The building contains approximately 20,000 square feet and has three floors. The first and second floors covering 12,000 square feet are dislay space and the remaining square footage is used for storage. The business was remoldeled in early 2000 but kept both its interior and exterior historical character. Upon entering the from door one's vision is immediately led to an eight foor wide staircase and opening to the second floor. Square colums are viewed from the lower floor upward twenty five feet. Art Deco panels frame the areas above the expansive display windows across the front of the store. |
