Stevens, Edwards, & Hallock, P.C., was formed in 1989 by Francis E. Stevens, James L. Edwards, and Joseph E. Hallock. The founding partners each started their private practice in Gillette, Wyoming, and had been members of other firms in Gillette. The firm's practice has grown with the business and industry in Campbell County, Wyoming. Campbell County is fortunate to have a large oil and gas industry, to include coal-bed methane gas, as well as the largest open pit coal mines in North America. Those industries create a healthy business environment with related and support businesses. Ranching also continues to be a significant business in Campbell County. Patrick E. Carpenter joined the firm as an associate in 1998 and became a partner in 2004. Paul S. Phillips was hired by the firm as an associate in 2007 and became a partner in 2010. Douglas E. Stevens is an associate with the firm and works primarily at the Sundance, Wyoming branch office. Profiles and areas of practice of each lawyer are included in this website. The three founding members of the firm are AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest peer rating available through that organization. The firm is primarily a business law firm with partners who are active in litigation. In addition to its business practice, the firm does plaintiff's representation in personal injury. The firm's only area of domestic practice is adoption. Representative clients are listed in this website. In 2006, the firm opened a branch office in nearby Sundance, Wyoming (58 miles east of Gillette, WY). Sundance, Wyoming is located on the edge of the Black Hills of Wyoming near the South Dakota border. The firm opened its office to service its clients in the Sundance area which were primarily related to ranching, estate planning, probate and real estate development. The picturesque and remote areas surrounding Sundance have created a great deal of interest for summer homes and large acre real estate development. Associate Douglas E. Stevens, who works in the Sundance office, lives in nearby Spearfish, South Dakota. He is a member of the South Dakota Bar and Wyoming Bar. Other members of the firm are available to meet with clients and conduct business.
