Blair MacKinnon
Blair is a farm boy from Prince Edward Island. After completing his undergraduate at Dalhousie University he served as a regular member of the RCMP for 5 years. He then entered Law School and graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1977. After admission to the Nova Scotia Barristers Society in 1978, he began his practice in Dartmouth and has practiced continuously in Dartmouth since then. At the onset of his career, he practiced in the areas of Real Estate, Wills, Estates, Litigation, Criminal and Divorce Law. The main focus of his practice is now in the area of Real Estate and Business Law.
Blair is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Real Estate Lawyers Association of Nova Scotia (RELANS). He serves on Nova Scotia Bar Society Subcommittees as well as a wide variety of community organizations. He is a past Chair of Dartmouth Community Homemakers Association and is presently a member of the Board of Governors for Northwood Homecare. He is also a past Chair of the Residential Tenancies Board and Dartmouth Police Commission. He is actively involved in his Church and enjoys dabbling in Politics.
Helen L. Foote
Helen graduated from Saint Mary's University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1975. She received her LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1979. Helen was admitted to the Nova Scotia Barristers Society in March 1980. Helen has practiced law in Dartmouth since 1980 in the areas of Family & Divorce Law, Wills & Estates and Real Property. She is a member of the Family Law Arbitration Society & Institute and will conduct arbitrations in the area of Family Law and Estates.
Helen has been a member of the Canadian Bar Association and is serving as President of the Nova Scotia Branch for 2009-2010. She is a Past Chair of the Family Law Section of the Nova Scotia Branch and has served on a number of committees of the Canadian Bar Association including the Law Day Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Professional Development Committee, Sections Committee and as a Voting Member of the National Board of Directors. She was Sections Coordinator for 2002-2003.
Helen has training in mediation and is a member of the Collaborative Family Law - NS Association. She is a Past Chairman of the Nova Scotia Residential Tenancies Board and has conducted hearings under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act. In the past, she has sat on the Board of Directors of Canadian Mental Health - Dartmouth Branch and has sat as legal counsel on the Board of Directors of the Dartmouth Senior Services Center.
Helen has been a volunteer on committees leading up to the introduction of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Family Division) and was a member of the pilot project for Parent Education in the Dartmouth Family Court, which was adopted, and is an on-going program in the Family Division.
Cheryl C. Arnold
Born in Halifax, Cheryl graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1997, followed by her LLB from Dalhousie University in 2001. Cheryl was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2002.
Cheryl is an associate of the firm and practices primarily in the area of Family and Divorce Law. Her main objective is to assist clients by negotiating a settlement following a relationship breakdown. Cheryl has assisted clients over the years in all areas of Family and Divorce Law, including custody, access, support, and property and debt division. In addition, Cheryl devotes a portion of her practice to Real Estate Law and Wills.
Cheryl resides in Bedford and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her teenage son. One of their favourite past times is attending various musical productions and concerts in both Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Canada.
Lisanne M. Jacklin
Lisanne practices in the areas of Family law, Real Estate and Litigation. She has represented family clients throughout many areas of Nova Scotia and has represented Vendors and Purchasers in the purchase and sale of both residential and commercial properties. She has experience in various areas of litigation including wrongful dismissal, human rights complaints, personal injury claims, property disputes and builders' liens.
Lisanne has appeared before various levels of court including, Provincial court, Small Claims Court, Nova Scotia Supreme Court, and Nova Scotia Supreme Court Family Division. She has also effectively settled cases at various tribunal levels.
Lisanne is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association. She volunteers as a parent facilitator with the Parent Information Program created by the Nova Scotia Supreme Court (Family Division).
Christopher P. LaVigne
Chris LaVigne was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1984. Upon admission to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1985 he articled and practiced in Dartmouth until 1987.
In the fall of 1987 Chris moved to Bermuda where he resided, became a member of the Bermuda Bar and practiced law for 23 years. Chris is a general practitioner with a focus in the areas of Civil Litigation and Real Property.
While in Bermuda Chris sat as an Acting Magistrate for several years and was a member of various sub-committees of the Bermuda Bar.
In 2008 Chris returned to Nova Scotia, was readmitted as a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Bar. Chris's main focus is in Real Property matters, residential and commercial.
His free time is spent with family and friends.
Angus 'Gus' MacIntyre, Q.C.
Gus graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with an Arts degree in 1968, from Dalhousie Law School in 1971, and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in March of 1972. Since then Gus has practiced law in Dartmouth, initially primarily in the areas of property, civil and criminal law, and now primarily in Real Estate, Business Law and Estates. He has been an Adjudicator in Night Court since 1995, and also is a Presiding Justice of the Peace.
Gus has served on the Board of Directors of the Dartmouth YMCA, the Organizing Committee of Cole Harbor Place, former President of the Dartmouth Bar Society, President of The Presiding Justices of the Peace Association, Chaired the Cole Harbour School Organizing Committee, was an organizing member of the Cole Harbor Old Timers Hockey Association, and served in various capacities with the Cole Harbor Minor Hockey Association.
