Donald began his carpentry training at the Lunenburg Regional Vocational School (now Nova Scotia Community College) and graduated from the Carpentry Program in 1975. His instructor, the late Archie Keddy, was a carpenter from the “old school” and taught his class well. Things had to be done right the first time. As the saying goes… measure twice, cut once! After successfully completing the program Donald gained employment with a company that was building homes in Oakhill, Nova Scotia. Also employed with that company was another carpenter from the old school named Percy Sarty. Percy took a liking to Donald and in the time honoured tradition of craftsmen he taught him his skills. Before long people were calling Donald wanting a little job done here and there. It wasn’t long thereafter that Donald was “on his own” building bigger and bigger projects. Approximately 22 years ago Shore Side Carpentry Limited was formed with two partners. Today, Donald is the sole owner of Shore Side Carpentry Limited. |
